The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause

Things to Think About

By Pepper de Callier

“The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of a mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one.”  J.D. Salinger in Catcher in the Rye

Salinger’s eloquent prose captures the daydream of youth being awakened by the reality of what true strength looks like—the ability to live every day, day-in and day-out, consistently holding a core value in sharp focus and using it as one’s north star versus the shooting comet of a single act.  It may not seem as glamorous, not dying nobly for a cause, but humility, discipline and dedication give one so much more time in which to touch the lives of others by one’s example—come to think of it, that sounds pretty noble itself.  Good luck on your journey!

Till next time…
